WelcomeMy passion for journalism emerged in high school, where I reported for the news beat of my school's student-run newspaper, The Independent, and worked my way up to news editor by my senior year. I am now a junior at Marquette University in Milwaukee, majoring in journalism and Spanish.
When I was young, my parents nurtured in me a powerful love for reading. Since then, I have had a strong desire to write and share stories. After growing up and attending school in metropolitan areas with large Hispanic populations, studying Spanish for eight years and traveling to Barcelona in 2008, that desire has evolved into an interest in sharing stories about life in Spanish-speaking parts of the world. I believe that language is our most essential tool. Without language, we would have no way of understanding the world around us. However, new trends and technologies are always changing the way we communicate, interact and tell stories. I feel very comfortable in a field as dynamic as journalism. In the future, I hope to use the media skills I learn at Marquette--and in Digital Journalism II--to write about women's and minority issues with an emphasis on communication across cultures. |
